Definitions

Dream: An Applicant’s career ambition or aspiration in the creative industries, which includes, but is not limited to, advertising; animation; architecture; computer game design; design; digital media; fashion; film and video; literature and writing; music; the performing arts; photography; publishing; television and radio production; video art; visual art

Applicant: A person who has applied for a Realise Your Dream Award in accordance with these terms and conditions

Finalist: An Applicant who has been invited to attend a final interview with the Promoter in Sydney.

Realise Your Dream Award: An award to be awarded to an Applicant in the creative industries

Semi-Finalist: An Applicant who has been invited to attend a semi-final interview with the Promoter in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide

Partners: National Australia Bank Limited (NAB), triple j, Stamford Hotels and Resorts Pty Limited, Republic of Everyone, Virgin Group of Airlines and Access PR

Winner: An Applicant who has been awarded a Realise Your Dream Award. Information on the awards and how to enter form part of these terms and conditions. By participating in the awards, Applicants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

About

1.    The 2010 Realise Your Dream Award will assist five (5) Australians working in the creative industries to undertake a professional development trip in the United Kingdom. The recipients of the Award will be announced at the Awards Night on Wednesday 8 September 2010 and will be featured in the www.realiseyourdream.org.au website. Winners will be flown to the UK by Virgin Atlantic and receive an $8000 NAB Cash Passport to assist with expenses. The Promoter will assist the recipient with a programme of professional development in the UK by facilitating introductions to leading practitioners relevant to the winner’s field and providing support and advice from Promoter staff. The scholarship money can also be used for additional, approved, professional development activities.

Eligibility
2. While there is no age formal age limit for applicants, the Award is not intended for established practitioners.

The Award is open only to emerging practitioners working in the creative industries.
“Emerging” applicants are understood to be in the first 10 years of professional practice. For the purpose of this Award this is generally understood to be either (a) the first 10 years from the completion of an undergraduate degree or relevant course of study, or (b) up to 10 years demonstrated industry experience.

Established artists or practitioners are not eligible for an Award. For the purposes of this Award, “established” is defined as having (a) been widely exhibited, published, performed or awarded in Australia and/or internationally and/or
(b) achieved or maintained commercial and/or critical success in their creative field, either in Australia and/or internationally for at least 10 years, and/or (c) maintained a consistent level of commercial and/or critical success in their creative field, for at least 10 years in Australia and/or internationally.
Applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and it is at the absolute discretion of the Promoter to determine the eligibility of applicants for an Award.
 (i) Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and holders of, or eligible for, a passport and any necessary visas for the UK. The Promoter is able to offer limited information about how to secure a visa, all visa-related enquiries should be made to the British High Commission.
(ii) Applicants who are unable to participate in semi-final and final interviews will not be eligible for an award

(iii) Employees of the Promoter and Partners are ineligible to enter

The Prize

3. There are five Realise Your Dream Awards to be won, each consisting of:
A return economy class ticket travelling on selected Virgin Atlantic operated flights from Sydney to London. All flights are valid for one (1) year from date of issue and incorporate the following terms and conditions:
a.    The flights must be booked within two months of winning the prize
b.    Valid on Virgin Atlantic services only over the specified routing and
c.    in the class of travel stated
d.    Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-endorseable for
e.    travel on any other airline
f.    The prize will be forfeited for any breach of these conditions or any
g.    unlawful use of the prize
h.    The travel period cannot be extended beyond the expiry date
i.    Once the tickets have been issued they are valid only for the
j.    flights/dates shown
k.    Lounge passes and Limousine transfers are not permitted with this/
l.    these tickets
m.    Frequent Flyer points cannot be accrued on these tickets
n.    Prize winner seats are subject to availability
o.    Virgin Atlantic reserves the right to offer an alternative date of travel when the preferred choice is not available
p.    These tickets cannot be used during peak travel periods and selected
q.    blackout periods (TBA)
r.    All applicable taxes and surcharges are payable by the prize winner

Travel from Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide to Sydney is on Virgin Blue.

 (ii) $8000 NAB Cash Passport to be used by a Winner to cover costs associated with the programme, including but not limited to accommodation, living expenses and any relevant course fees for the period that the Winner is in the UK. NAB Cash Passport is a pre-paid, PIN-protected travel money card that allows Winners to obtain local currency from over a million Visa ATMs worldwide.
(iii) The Promoter will assist the recipient with a programme of professional development in the UK by facilitating:
(a) introductions to up to eight leading practitioners relevant to the winner’s field and/or (b) introductions to organisations with which the winner can seek professional placements, and/or (c) information and advice from Promoter staff. Winners are expected to have conducted their own research into contacts or programmes they wish to pursue and ensure that these match the Winner’s area of expertise and skill. The Winner is required to submit a plan for their trip to the UK to Promoter staff within a reasonable timeframe to allow for their travel arrangements and any introductions to be made.
(iv). Awards are not transferable and Airfares cannot be exchanged for cash. All taxes (excluding GST) which may be payable as a consequence of accepting an Award are the sole responsibility of the Winner.
4. The application period commences at 5pm AEST on Friday 23 April 2010 and closes at 6pm AEST on Friday 18 June 2010.

Application Process
5. To apply for a Realise Your Dream Award Applicants must:

(i) complete the online Application Form at www.realiseyourdream.org.au
The application must:
(a) outline the Applicant’s professional experience and creative achievement to date with clear examples
(b) demonstrate knowledge of and interest in the Applicant’s profession in the UK
(c) outline the Applicant’s aims and goals in the UK, including the UK mentor(s) the Applicant would be most interested in working with and any contact already established
(d) detail the Applicant’s long-term career goals and professional aspirations
(e) demonstrate the Applicant's determination to succeed
(f) demonstrate the Applicant’s potential for strengthening the relationship between Australian and UK creative industries
(ii) submit support material in formats listed
 
6. Collective Applications
(i) Collaborative practitioners may apply collectively, but they are eligible for one award only. The prize remains the same in terms of scope and value.

(ii) For applications by collectives only one form needs to be completed for the whole group

(iii) Collectively, applicants need to demonstrate how they will make the opportunity and the Award work for them as a group – creatively, logistically, and financially

Application Rules

7. An Applicant's Application Form and application materials must be received by the Promoter during the Application Period. Applicants or subscribers to the Promoter’s e-news may be sent reminder emails through the application period. Applications close Friday 18 June at 5:00pm AEST.

8. An Applicant may not submit more than one application and may only enter one Dream. If an Applicant submits more than one entry, only the first entry received by the Promoter will be considered.

9. The Promoter reserves the right to determine in its absolute discretion whether an Applicant's entry is eligible for a Realise Your Dream award
10. Applicants represent and warrant to the Promoter that their work is original and does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party. The Promoter is not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the Applicant.
11. No responsibility is assumed for late entries or corrupted files. Incomplete entries or entries that do not comply with the format specifications will be automatically disqualified. Hard copy applications and documentation will not be accepted.
12. Applicants are encouraged to keep copies of all information submitted to the Promoter. The Promoter may collect information supplied by Applicants, and may retain, use and disclose that information for the purposes of assessing their applications. Applicants consent to allow the Promoter to use the information supplied, in accordance with the Promoter's privacy policy.

Selection Criteria
13. The selection criteria for the awards are:

(i) record of outstanding creative achievement to date
(ii) clear articulation of career goals

(ii) determination to succeed

(iii) industry awareness and sense of realism about how to overcome obstacles to success and make the most of opportunities

(iv) a clear indication of the Applicant's Dream including what they would like to do in the UK if they are successful in being awarded a Realise Your Dream award

(v) potential for the Applicant to strengthen the relationship between Australia and the UK
Judging
14. A judging committee comprised of creative industry leaders will make its decision on the basis of ability, potential and suitability of the candidate to benefit from the professional development experience. Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:
(i) Creative achievement
(ii) Evidence of ability to succeed
(iii) Industry awareness
(iv) Clarity in the Applicant’s proposed professional development plan
(v)  Potential for strengthening the relationship between Australia and UK
Shortlisted Applicants are required for an interview with the judging committee in August 2010.

Semi-Finals
15. Semi-Finalists will be notified by telephone or email. Unsuccessful Applicants will be notified by email in August 2010.

16. Semi-Finalists will be required to attend a semi-final interview. Semi-final interviews will be held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and/or Adelaide depending on the location of Semi-Finalists.
17. Applications from Semi-Finalists may be available for public viewing on the Promoter's website for an undisclosed period of time for the purposes of publicity. Semi-Finalists will consent to such activities.

18. The Promoter will cover all reasonable travel costs associated with Semi-Finalists attending the semi-finals where a Semi-Finalist resides outside metropolitan Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide. Friends, family and partners accompanying a Semi-Finalist must travel at their own cost. For collaborative applicants, the promoter shall cover the cost of one applicant only to attend the Semi-Finals.

19. Semi-Finalists should bring samples or representations of their work to their interviews
Finals
20. Finalists will be notified in August 2009 by telephone. Unsuccessful Semi-Finalists will be notified by email in August 2010.

21. Finalists will be required to attend a final interview in Sydney. The final interview will be held on Tuesday 7 September 2010. Travel costs for Finalists who reside outside of Sydney and up to two nights accommodation will be organised and paid for by the Promoter. Friends, family and partners accompanying a Finalist must travel at their own cost.
For collaborative applicants, the promoter shall cover the cost of one applicant only to attend the Finals.
22. Each Finalist will be interviewed in Sydney. The Promoter will notify Finalists by letter and/or telephone of the time of their final interview.
23. Prior to interview all Finalists will supply photographs of themselves at a minimum of 300 dpi, in jpeg or tiff format, for use in the awards ceremony presentation

24. Finalists should be aware that the Promoter may wish to reproduce their work provided to the Promoter during the application process for the purpose of promoting the Realise Your Dream Awards. In such cases, permission from the Winner will be sought by the Promoter in advance.
25. Finalists will be invited to attend a professional development workshop organised by the Promoter on the day of the awards in Sydney. Further professional development opportunities may be recommended to the Winner by the Promoter. Participation in these activities will be at the expense of the Winner.

Winners
26. Winners will be formally announced at the Realise Your Dream Awards ceremony. The names and Dreams of the five Winners will also be posted on the Promoter's website on the day following the awards ceremony.

27. Winners may be required to undertake a police check prior to final confirmation of their award. A police check involves a name check which will show any criminal convictions against the Finalist. If the results of the police check are unacceptable to the Promoter the award will be offered to one of the other Finalists as a criminal conviction may prohibit a Finalist from being able to enter the UK. The cost of the police check will be covered by the Promoter.

28. Winners may be required to participate in publicity concerning the Realise Your Dream Awards in the form of providing comments for press releases and media interviews for the Promoter. Winners consent to participating in such activities and related photography sessions and agree that their name, photograph, likeness and/or image may be used by the Promoter and/or the Sponsors in connection with the promotion, advertising or marketing of the Realise Your Dream Awards.

29. Winners agree to act as positive ambassadors for the British Council and the Sponsors and agree not to disparage the Promoter, the Partners, the Realise Your Dream Awards or their association with the Promoter.

30. Winners may be asked to provide regular written updates about their Realise Your Dream UK experience in the form of a blog, or other method.

31. It is strongly recommended that Winners obtain travel insurance prior to travelling. This cost will not be covered by the Promoter.

32. Winners must apply for an appropriate visa for entry into the UK. Winners are fully responsible for ensuring that they have obtained an appropriate visa before going to the UK. The Promoter is able to offer limited information about how to secure a visa, all visa-related enquiries should be made to the British High Commission.
33. Winners must cover the cost of any visa required
34. While the Promoter will do its utmost to assist the winner to develop their professional programme in the UK, the Promoter will not guarantee that specific requests or programmes proposed by the Winner will be met. All modifications and/or recommendations to a Winner's programme for their visit to the UK will be made in full consultation with the Winner.

Award Conditions

35. The Winners of the 2010 Realise Your Dream Award will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Wednesday 8 September 2010.

36. Prize excludes: accommodation, meals, visas, passport costs, travel insurance, spending and other transport costs, unless specified by the Promoter. The prize does not include any ancillary costs; these are at the prize-winners’ own expense.
 
37. Flights must be booked by 31 March 2011 and winners should depart for the UK by May 2011. Flight bookings are subject to availability and the return flight must be completed within one year from date of the outbound departure.

a.    The flight is not redeemable for cash and not transferable
a.b.    Reservations for all sectors are required, no open-dated sectors permitted
a.c.    Any changes made to the booking after the ticket has been issued will incur a service fee
a.d.    The prize-winner must hold and carry a valid passport and any necessary visas
a.e.    Winners will be carried pursuant to the British AirwaysVirgin Group of Airlines’ General Conditions of Carriage (copy available on request)
a.f.    Travel insurance is not included in the prize, however is strongly recommended

38. Each Winner will receive their Award by way of a NAB Cash Passport valued at $8000 (or foreign currency equivalent). The Award will be distributed to each Winner upon acceptance by the Promoter of an approved professional development plan, letter of agreement and return flight booking.
   
39. The successful applicant will be required to:
( )    undertake a programme of professional development in the UK as agreed with the Promoter. In addition, funds can be used towards a short course, training or research with an approved company or at a recognised institution.
(i)    inform the Promoter of the enrolment/proposed course of study as soon as enrolment is completed or any variation to the proposed professional development.
(i)(ii)    complete an Evaluative Questionnaire upon completion of the Award

Disclaimer
40. The Promoter and its related entities are not liable for any loss, damage or injury whatsoever which is incurred or sustained by a Winner (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss or loss arising from negligence) in the course of participating in the Awards or arising directly or indirectly out of or in connection with the Realise Your Dream Awards (except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law). While Winners are in the UK, the Promoter assumes no responsibility for, and Winners release the Promoter from, any loss, claim, damage or injury to person or property as a result of the participation of the Winner in the Realise Your Dream Awards.
41. The Promoter is not responsible for problems with uploading or downloading any competition-related information from the website or for any other technical malfunctions of electronic equipment, on-line systems, servers, providers, or networks. The Promoter is not responsible for computer hardware or software failures, failure of any electronic entry to be received by the Promoter on account of technical problems, traffic, congestion on the internet or the website, or any other technical problems related to website entries including telecommunication, miscommunication or failure, and failed, lost, delayed, incomplete, garbled or misdirected communications which may limit an entrant's ability to participate in this award. The Promoter reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate the Application in the event it becomes infected by a computer virus or is otherwise technically impaired, and to cancel or suspend the Application in its entirety should tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or other causes beyond its control corrupt the administration, security, fairness, or integrity of the Award.
42. Decisions of the judging panels are final. No correspondence will be entered into.
